Terms in Russian are now searchable in electropedia.org, the dedicated website for electrotechnical terminology produced by the IEC, the world’s leading organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. In all Electropedia now offers more than 20 000 entries in 11 languages.

The online database comprises terms and definitions in English and French, as well as equivalent terms in German and Spanish, and allows searches for a selection of terms in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Swedish.

Electropedia is entirely searchable. The database is divided into 78 main subject areas and contains the complete set of the original International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEV), published also as a set of publications in the IEC 60050 series that can be ordered separately from the IEC webstore.

Having the complete IEV in database format also makes updating much simpler. New terms may be added to existing parts as technical language evolves and further sections incorporated as technology broadens out into new areas.

Since its launch in April 2007, Electropedia has become an essential tool for anyone interested in electrotechnology or requiring up-to-date equivalent terms. Industry is the biggest user of the IEV but governments, including customs bodies, academia and test labs are also major beneficiaries.
