The transformation of the preliminary European ENV Eurocode standards to the EN Eurocode standards represents an extremely important and demanding task being implemented under the

auspices of the CEN/TC 250 “Structural Eurocodes”. These EN Eurocodes will represent the defini-tive European standards to be gradually implemented into the national standardization systems of the individual CEN member states.

EN Eurocodes are intended to become a unified system of European stan-dardization documents for the design of civil engineering structures, from the point of view of their mechanical resistance, stability
and fire resistance while at the same time taking into account a variety of possible types of structure  as well as a variety of materials used. Another purpose of these standards is to determine the mechanical characteristics of the industrially produced civil engineering components that, by the nature of their purpose, contribute to the overall mechanical resistance , stability and the level of fire resistance of the building.

EN Eurocodes- present new methods of design calculations and in some instances they offer the technical public a selection from several optional alternative design procedures to be included in the individual national an-nexes and if need be, to be applied in respect of the nature of the individ-ual civil engineering project. The implementation of the EN Eurocodes is expected to bring about a number of advantages and it is supported by the European Commission.
