BIP 3086:2008 Compendium of symbols for use on electrical equipment and for diagrams

The CD-ROM is for designers and mnanufacturers of a wide range of  electrical equipment, both consumer and industrial. It would also be of interest to technical writers who prepare user and technical manuals, and companies and developers of software packages that prepare documentation or drawings (such as CAD).

The CD-ROM contains both sets of the universal symbols required for use on electrical equipment, covering the symbols and hazard warnings required. The text of the symbols standards is included, giving guidance on the use of the symbols.

This CD-ROM comprises database ‘snapshots’ in a PDF format, and represent the state of the IEC databases at the time of publication. The PDF format allows users to search for the symbols required, quickly and easily.

The symbols are taken from the two withdrawn European standards:

• BS EN 60417-1:1999 Graphical symbols for use on equipment. Overview and application

The symbols for equipment are for use as hazard warnings and general indication of function or purpose for controls on equipment.

• BS EN 60617-12:1999 Graphical symbols for diagrams. Binary logic elements

The symbols for diagrams are for insertion into user manuals and product documentation.

Until recently these symbols were only available from other sources through a time-limited subscription service.
