At the plenary meeting of IEC/TC61 (Safety of household and similar electrical appliances) held at the end of May in Japan, two environment-friendly technologies developed for the first time in the world were adopted by the technical committee as international standards.

One technology is ‘Detergent-Free Electrolyzer Washing Machines (IEC 60335-2-7)’ that Daewoo Electronics commercialized with application of detergent-free washing technology developed by Kyungwon Enterprise.

The other is 'Particular Requirements for Electrolyzers (IEC 60335-2-108)' that changes regular tap water into alkaline water using electrolysis and generates cleaning water to wash or sterilize contaminants on dishes, vegetables, fruits, precision parts, etc. Installed in such areas as kitchen sinks, electric bidets and dishwashing machines, the electrolyzers are being diversely utilized by general households, restaurants and industries.

In the future, KATS plans to nurture private experts in related fields continuously in order to participate actively in international standardization activities for household and electrical appliances.
