IECQ HSPM certification helps businesses in the electronics and electrical sectors stay competitive
Global fears over the use of hazardous substances in the production of electronic and electrical equipment are expected to prompt increasing worldwide legislation in this arena in the near future. As a result, many companies within this sector are putting in place systems and processes that will ensure their compliance with such legislation as and when they are implemented, helping them produce electronic and electrical goods that conform to international environmental standards.
For example, many companies today are working to attain IECQ HSPM Certification to QC 080000, a technical assessment quality specification introduced and implemented by IECQ, the IEC Quality Assessment System for Electronic Components, to help businesses improve their management of hazardous substances in their manufacturing processes. By gaining IECQ HSPM Certification to QC 080000, via the well-known IECQ On-Line Certificate System, companies are able to easily verify whether their Hazardous Substance Process Management (HSPM) efforts are effective. This, in turn, will help them resolve any possible challenges they may face in their environmental protection efforts.
Applicable to the manufacture of electrical and electronic components as well as related materials, both internally produced and outsourced, an IECQ HSPM QC 080000 builds upon the ISO 9001 quality management system framework that businesses use to manage the systematic and transparent quality processes within their organization.
To attain the certification, companies must, among other things, demonstrate that they are conscientiously making efforts to reduce the use of hazardous materials in their processes and actively replacing such materials with non-harmful alternatives. Apart from helping companies attain international approval and acceptance of their electronic and electrical products, businesses can also leverage the IECQ Certification to implement customized internal HSPM activities. In addition, IECQ HSPM Certification enables companies to meet some of the requirements set out by such European Union directives as RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment), WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), thus providing compliance standardization for both industry players and regulators, and helping manufacturers save time and costs.
TÜV SÜD PSB, an IECQ-approved Certification Body , has been working with Singaporean companies in the electronics and electrical sectors to help them achieve IECQ HSPM Certification. While from a regulatory perspective it is a non-mandatory compliance standard in Singapore, it is however becoming a standardized industry requirement for doing business in this region. A case in point is Unisteel Technology Limited, a fastener manufacturer for the electronics industry and the first company in Singapore to be certified by TÜV SÜD PSB Singapore. Having already been verified as complying with RoHS, the company’s IECQ HSPM Certification to QC 080000 has made it well-equipped going forward to meet both client and industry regulatory requirements governing the use of hazardous materials.
