BOBS certified Barloworld Plascon Botswana

Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS)  handed over a BOS ISO 9001: 2000 certificate to Barloworld Plascon Botswana at a ceremony held at their offices in New Lobatse Road, Gaborone West. The Managing Director of BOBS, Dr Elsie Meintjies thanked the management of Plascon Botswana for affording BOBS staff to tour the facilities, and mentioned that she was impressed with the signs of the safety standards that she saw as she toured the factory.

Dr Meintjies said, the certificate means that Barloworld Plascon Botswana was assessed by BOBS auditors and found to be in conformity with BOS ISO 9001: 2000 standard on quality management systems.
She added that to date, over 900 000 ISO 9001 Certificates have been issued to organizations against the ISO 9001: 2000 Standard throughout the world, demonstrating the recognized importance of this standard to business.

Dr Meintjies thanked Barloworld Plascon Botswana for choosing BOBS as their preferred certifying body in this competitive business of certification. She further said “Now, as a BOBS ISO 9001:2000 certified organization, Barloworld Plascon Botswana will have the privilege to fly the BOS ISO 9001: 2000 flags at its premises in Gaborone and Francistown, as well as to use the BOBS certification logo on their publicity and advertising material for promotional purposes.

Giving his address at the ceremony, Barloworld Plascon Botswana Managing Director, Mr Dick Jamieson related the story of how Plascon started in Francistown from humble beginnings 21 years ago. He said the company is now doing well in Botswana. He emphasized that quality standards is very important in business especially now that they have started exporting their products to neighbouring countries like Malawi & Zambia. He further shared the unfortunate accident of fire that they had in the year 2002 which destroyed everything, and said ever since that mishap they don’t leave things to chance. They have since taken quality standards very seriously in their business.

Barloworld Plascon Botswana started the implementation of the system in 2006 which Mr Jamieson said required a change in mindset but they persevered as they believed in quality.

He thanked Mr Ray Singh and his team for their perseverance and the management for the support in the implementation of the system.

The ceremony started with a guided tour of their facilities led by Mr Raj Singh. He took the guests through the process of producing their products and emphasized on the safety procedures that they follow throughout their processing plant. It was very impressive to see a wide range of safety signs all over which shows that safety of their equipment and employees is their number one priority.
