2008 Concrete Technology Contest Awards Announced in Korea

On June 25, KATS held an awards ceremony for winners at the Concrete Technology Contest, which marked its fifth anniversary, at Korea Science and Technology Center. As an event held annually by KATS to strengthen the competitiveness of the concrete industry, the Concrete Technology Contest is selecting and awarding those individuals and teams who secured excellent concrete manufacturing technologies.

 For this year''s contest, the criteria for selection took into consideration technological advancement in manufacturing concrete, involvement in development of concrete industry, etc. for a total of 131 teams over two months starting in March. As a result, KATS selected 12 outstanding technical contributors and 20 excellent teams from the contest as prize winners.

 This year, the Presidential Citation was presented to Kang Chang-Woon, general manger of Ssangyong Cement Industrial Co., Ltd., in recognition of his contribution to the new technology development and dissemination of a natural marble-level color concrete and exposed concrete, which does not require finishes.

 Featuring this year''s contest was that more applicants than last year participated in the student category and technology innovation sector was newly installed to encourage production of concrete utilizing new technologies.

 The Concrete Technology Contest is intended to ensure consumer safety by spreading the importance of concrete product qualities and also to contribute to the development of the concrete industry. KATS plans to support the event more actively in the future, including expansion of government awards.
