KATS conducted a safety investigation on Electrical

KATS conducted a safety investigation into 21 electrical appliance items of 203 companies being distributed at department stores, discount stores, traditional markets and on-line shopping malls in order to check whether they conform to their product safety criteria.

Under the investigation, 37 products were found to have failed to meet the safety criteria. KATS took administrative measures, cancellation of safety certifications for 15 products among them, in which defects like electric shock or electric leak, overheating danger of internal cables were discovered, two months of suspension of safety certificate marks for eight products with structural defects and improvement order for 14 products, which had slight defects like failing to reach consumption power.

 Production and imports of safety certification-cancelled products will be prohibited by restricting safety certifications for identical products within the next one year. As for the products, which received suspension of safety certification mark labeling, production and imports will be prohibited for the suspension period. Those products under improvement measure will be subject to receive checks on implementation status within two months after receipt of the administrative action.

 KATS plans to select those items that had been found inappropriate in the safety investigation as safety-vulnerable items and implement safety checks frequently until substandard products are exterminated. KATS also plans to establish and push ahead with strong countermeasures to root out the distribution of substandard products in the future, including implementing safety investigations into all the safety certified products of the companies, which manufacture or import inappropriate products habitually.
