KATS hosted The 21st Plenary Meeting for Paper, Board and Pulps
Hosted by KATS, the Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC6 ( Paper, Board and Pulp) was held June 6-13 at the Seoul Palace Hotel amid the participation of about 150 world''s paper experts from 31 countries, the United States, Sweden, the U.K., China, Japan, etc.
During the eight-day meeting, the participants discussed about establishment of about 20 standards, including a number of newly suggested New Work Item Proposals (NWIPs), such as seven standards for ''Testing Methods for Whiteness'' of paper and pulp, 17 standards for physical properties ''Accelerated Aging Testing Methods'' and two for ''Fiber Length Measurement Methods through Optical Analysis of Pulp.''
At the plenary meeting, Korea suggested NWIPs for ''Measurement Method of Pentachlorophenol (PCP) from Extracted Solutions from Pulp, Paper and Board'' and ''Flat Crush Strength Measurement Method for Fine Corrugated Board.''
At present, Korea''s paper industry position in the world based on production volume in 2006 ranked eighth. In terms of its position on the national economy, the industry accounted for 0.84% in production and 0.65% in employment of the nation''s total manufacturing businesses. The Korea-suggested draft standards, if established as international standards, are likely to enhance the quality of paper and board significantly.
KATS plans to promote standardization activities at international standardization organizations actively also in the future, graft the domestic research results thus far promoted with international standards and prepare a foundation for the growth and development of the nation''s paper industry
